The external capsule is delivered directly in the stomach, liberating the content of the saffron extract, and vitamins C and B6.
Affron® is a patented saffron extract known for its mood-enhancing properties. It selectively inhibits the reuptake of dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin, improving mood balance and sleep.
Vitamin B6 contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system, supports normal psychological function, enhances the immune system’s functioning, reduces tiredness and fatigue, and regulates hormonal activity.
Vitamin C contributes to the protection of cell constituents (DNA, proteins, and lipids) from oxidative damage, and to the normal function of the nervous and immune systems.

The internal capsule is a gastric-resistant one, and it will disintegrate after entering the small intestine. Thus, the synbiotic (pro and prebiotic) will be delivered at this specific site.

SYNBIOTIC: BIFIDOBACTERIUM BREVE + FOS
Objectives:
The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a 4-week supplementation with either B. breve or placebo in 45 subjects. Changes from baseline in psychometric and gastrointestinal symptoms were evaluated using Hamilton Depression Rating scale-24 items (HDRS-24), Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) and Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSRS). Serum levels of inflammatory markers and gut microbiome composition were also investigated.
Conclusion:
The study found that B. breve is a promising candidate psychobiotic strain that attenuates depression and associated gastrointestinal symptoms.
B. breve showed significantly better antidepressant-like effect than placebo. Changes in gut microbiome and gut tryptophan metabolism under the probiotic treatment seem to play a key role.
